Gates to Success in the Division of Faculty Advancement and Student Success is committed to serving first-generation college students across the university from all levels and majors to help students achieve a meaningful educational experience at San Diego State University.
Our Mission
The purpose of this organization is to promote inclusive excellence for all students and to advance First Generation, low-income students’ success by connecting them to high-impact practices, such as study abroad, service learning, internships, and research. Gates to Success seeks to help students achieve a complete college experience while simultaneously preparing emerging scholars for a successful and productive life after graduation.

What is a first-generation student?
You are considered a First-Generation college student if your parent/guardian(s) did not complete a four-year college degree.
